The mission of Art/Place is to provide a place where artists can interact creatively and exhibit their work without the restrictions that might be imposed by a commercial gallery. This allows the artists to experiment and present works in a broad range of mediums and subject matter. The monthly schedule features individual artists or group shows.
The gallery is unique in the latitude accorded to exhibiting artists, the relatively small number of artists (30 or so), and the fact that regular visitors to the gallery over time are able to follow developments in any given artist's work.
Another important part of the mission is sharing this creative atmosphere with the general public through artist's talks and guest lectures, as well as music and dance performances. In addition, each year Art/Place presents the work of a nationally known artist, such as Sol Lewitt, Antonio Frasconi, Philip Trager, and Gabor Peterdi. Art/Place also presents "Artists Invite Artists" exhibitions that feature additional local and regional artists.
Art/Place celebrated 35 years in 2016
