Scratchy guitars rubbing up against deep-skanking bass and drums; The English Beat bring that ska-punk fusion to explosive, danceable life once again on StageOne. Busting out of the late-'70s U.K. post-punk scene, the English Beat led the charge of ska-revival bands dubbed " 2 Tone" and brought '60s pop and soul tunes to a new generation, too, turning the Miracles' "Tears of a Clown" and Andy Williams' "Can't Get Used to Losing You" into ska-fueled U.K. smashes.
As the '70s drew to a close and the world was ready to move to a new groove, the English Beat was one of the first bands to shake up an intoxicating cocktail of ska beats, punk energy, and more hooks than a coat rack.
Selling out nearly every show they've ever played here it appears that we can never get our fill of these guys. Welcome back boys.
