Born to belt out the blues with the best of them, Shemekia is the daughter of world-renowned Texas blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland. She was awarded the “Rising Star- Blues Artist” Award in DownBeat Magazine, whose critics fell in love with her “wonderfully expressive singing and breathtaking performances that touch the heart.” The Chicago Tribune calls her a “major talent.” She owns every stage she steps on, all over the world and like a magnet, she’s making friends in high places, pushing her career into the blues stratosphere.

She stepped out of her father’s shadow in 1998 with the popular album Turn The Heat Up and kept going with the Dr. John-produced Talking to Strangers and she just released Never Going Back, produced by Oliver Wood (The Wood Brothers) and featuring his brother Chris Wood (Medeski, Martin and Wood) on bass and Marc Ribot (Robert Plant and Alison Kraus, Tom Waits, etc.) on guitar.
