Featuring Jackie Greene, Joan Osborne, Steve Gorman (The Black Crowes), Nick Gorvik (Widespread Panic) and Tom Bukovac
Trigger Hippy is “a big ol’ American rock ’n’ roll band,” with influences drawn from roots music, and rock music, and the jamband scene, and a little country flavor as well. It’s “this very American stew, with a lot of high energy injected into it.” So says one of its members, the rock and soul singer Joan Osborne. The sorta-supergroup, has become one of the most powerful new bands on the scene.
Their sound is a slow cooking of Stax R&B, and the blues. Spearheaded by Steve Gorman, Trigger Hippy started out as a jam session mash-up of The Black Crowes and Widespread Panic with a rotating cast. According to The Memphis Commercial Appeal, the bands material draws "…heavily from the members' shared love of R&B and soul — lots of Al Green and Stax, some old blues covers and a little bit of Led Zeppelin and Little Feat thrown in for good measure."
"One thing is for sure, this band means business! Jackie Greene is an absolute powerhouse, switching between guitar and keyboards seemingly at will, and playing his ass off on both instruments. Tom Bukovac can wail on the guitar too, playing some pretty enthralling solos in most of the songs. But, the band's style depends on Joan Osborne. With her sexy, sultry singing, Osborne shines as brightly as her blonde hair, leading the band into ecstasy time and time again. She can bring it high and take it low... wherever the music is supposed to go." - LIVE FOR LIVE MUSIC
