An Umphrey's McGee show is like a sonic ballet. Giving equal footing to the scripted and improvised; Umphrey's snake through structures in Prog, Jam and Jazz, making music for dare-devils. One of the hardest working bands in American prog-rock, Umphrey's McGee are also often associated with the jam band scene. Their constantly changing set lists, extended improv, and open taping policy belie the weight of their sound. Umphrey's are equal parts Phish and King Crimson. Listen carefully and you can hear all sorts of influence: Zappa, Megadeth, The Police, and the list goes on. Hailing from South Bend Indiana, Umphrey's got their start at Notre Dame and quickly became a local favorite. Word of them spread along with tapes of their shows, and by the time of their first studio release, "Local Band Does Ok," they were selling out shows on reputation alone. This fall they'll be taking their kaleidoscopic sound to The Klein Auditorium. Expect the unexpected and be prepared for trip down the musical rabbit hole. Concert Tickets $27.50 Advance $30 Day of
