Meet one of the fastest-rising stars in fingerstyle guitar & one of the country’s most imaginative young solo guitarists.
“Yasmin Williams is a fingerstyle guitarist who taps, slaps and slides up and down the fretboard of her instrument with a commanding sense of scenery that flickers between the strings. Storytellers build worlds; at the Tiny Desk, Williams invites us into hers.” —Lars Gotrich, NPR Music
Yasmin Williams is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist with an unorthodox, modern style of playing. She employs various techniques, including alternate tunings, percussive hits, and lap tapping, in her music to great effect. Her “radiant sound and adventitious origins have made her a key figure in a diverse dawn for the solo guitar” (The New York Times).
“Yasmin Williams is a guitarist and composer embedded in the roots between folk, jazz, and fantasy—a meditative virtuoso who fingerpicks benign worlds into existence. For all its harmonic intricacy, her fretwork on Acadia leaves room to consider what emotional curveball or narrative twist might have led to this modal lurch, or that deviation from the folk equilibrium.” — Pitchfork
The nomadic, self-taught, soul-searching troubadour has effectively and dynamically been able to disassemble the idea of an artist needing to be accredited to be accomplished. With an old soul and a fresh perspective, he has cultivated soundscapes and wave therapy on some of the musical worlds biggest stages such as Newport Jazz Festival, TEDx, and NPR while simultaneously staying steadfast in his belief of authentic quality over quantity; and it is with that stance that Charles has acquired cosigns from the likes of GRAMMY AWARD winning artists such as Son Little, Cedric Burnside, and Hip-Hop legends Digable Planets and Arrested Development; of which he has been direct support on a string of sold out shows. The D’angelico Guitars and Supro endorsed Charles’s inquisitive introspection has caught the attention of over 300k listeners across streaming platforms; not to mention the countless listeners he has captivated at venues, festivals, and conferences.
