Study Up
lespecial is redefining the term “power trio”. The multi-instrumentalists from Connecticut continue to push the boundaries of what a three-piece band is capable of both live and in the studio ahead of their latest album, “Odd Times”. The band’s signature blend of “heavy future groove” combines headbanging metal riffage and surgical rhythmic precision with bone shaking 808s, sub synths and ethereal vocal stylings for a dance floor that welcomes moshing, dancing and hip swaying alike. Listeners are taken on a journey to the musical netherworld through esoteric soundscapes punctuated by raw, primal power. Odd Times, lespecial’s darkest and heaviest record to date, is an enigmatic and compelling musical project that explores the ever-changing nature of time amidst isolation. With heavy riffs, tribal drumming, and hints of levity, it's a captivating journey crafted in collaboration with Havok's David Sanchez. An intriguing blend of old-school metal and modern djent-inspired riffage awaits in this haunting sonic experience.
Esseks (Sam Eckstein) is a Brooklyn based producer and visual artist. His music ranges all the bass-centric genres with a focus on the off-kilter. The diverse elements of his music are tied together with Esseks’ subtle but instantly recognizable sound. It is dark but in a playful sense. Cartoon Villain music you could say. He has built up a large catalog of music since his first release in 2012 and put out releases with Wakaan (AZ), Gravitas Recordings (TX), Foundations Recordings (CA), and Smokers Cough (NY) along with a number of self releases and collaborations with artists like Yheti, Space Jesus, GDP.
Once an art school student burning the midnight oil in the studio with a soundtrack always in the background, Sam Andrus aka 5AM has since forged his inspirations from jazz, funk, and beyond into a style of expertly woven bass music known to captivate audiences with mesmerizing detail and high resolution sound design. 5AM is fusion, and to bring his journey full circle, Sam has formed the 5AM Trio, a collaboration complete with live drumming from ZONE Drums (Aaron Harel) and guitar, bass, and pads from Keith Wadsworth, and has also begun performing fully improvised live looping sets. 5AM is now a seasoned performer who's shared the stage with Tipper, Shpongle, Jade Cicada, Kursa, kLL sMTH, Detox Unit, Papadosio, Lotus, Kalya Scintilla, Random Rab, and more, and has lived and built strong roots up and down the east and west coasts of the US.
