One of the most prominent voices in The Blues, Taj Mahal is an exemplar of what it means to be a roots musician. His scope spans continents, bringing tricks from all over into his playing. "I didn't want to fall into the trap of complacency. I wanted to keep pushing the musical ideas I had about jazz, music from Africa and the Caribbean. I wanted to explore the connections between different kinds of music.” He is indeed playing the worlds blues. This mercurial spirit has been with him since the beginning. While growing up in Springfield Mass. he learned to play Piano, Clarinet, Trombone, and Harmonica. He discovered his fathers guitar around the same time that he discovered blues. He took both and ran with them. He spent the following decades bumping shoulders with the likes of Otis Redding, Howlin' Wolf, and Buddy Guy. In Taj's words, "Even at the end of forty years, in many ways my music is just getting started." Concert Tickets $125
